Jasmine is a lawyer who, during the protests after George Floyd’s death, took on pro bono cases of several Black Lives Matter activists. When she was elected in 2022, she became the first Black woman elected to a freshman class leadership position since Democrats added the posts in 2016.
After working as a civil rights attorney and as public defender, Jasmine established her own law firm, taking on many pro bono civil rights cases. She previously represented the 100th district (yes there are that many!) of Texas in the state House of Representatives.
