The first Black Republican elected to Congress for Michigan, John has run for Senate in both 2018 and 2020 before winning his House seat in 2022. He’s a graduate of West Point and served in the Army in Iraq as an Apache pilot. After his military service, John earned a Master from Penn State University and an MBA from the University of Michigan. Before entering politics, he was the president of James Group International and CEO of Renaissance Global Logistics, his family’s supply chain management and logistics company based in Detroit. John lives in Michigan with his wife, Elizabeth, and their three sons.
