Lauren is the founder, owner, and operator of Shooters Grill, an open-carry restaurant in her town of Rifle, Colorado (yes, that’s the name) and campaigned on personal freedom, citizen rights, and upholding the Constitution. She is also the mother of four boys.
In addition to running her restaurant, Lauren has spent years counseling at-risk women at the local jail. Having never run for elected office before, she defeated longtime U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton in the GOP primary by a large margin and with very little campaign donations. In the November election, she beat Democrat Diane Mitsch Bush, a local politician with experience in several official roles.
Lauren is certainly hard to forget and has become one of the poster-children for the far-right movement in American government. Other than being a proud (perhaps the proudest?) gun owner, Lauren has made the 2nd amendment and other divisive issues the center of her political identity.
Lauren just got a bit of so-so news with a Republican challenger for her primary by seasoned state senator, Don Coram. Don called “excessive partisanship” the biggest threat to the county’s young republic and he’s able to disagree without being disagreeable. Sounds nice, but Lauren has 30 times more money than her closest opponent, so Don needs to start finding that MOO-LAH! Like every Congressperson, Lauren is writing a book, My American Life, which is set to be released July 12, 2022. We bet $5 that Lauren will be on the cover with one of her rifles!
None of us are surprised that Lauren was focusing on guns and 2nd Amendment protection this year. Two hours after 10 people were fatally shot at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, Lauren’s campaign sent an email with the subject line “I told BETO ‘HELL NO’ to taking our guns. Now we need to tell Joe Biden.” However, Lauren is not one to care about controversy so this probably didn’t phase her at all. Lauren was invited to attend a 2nd Amendment rally by PP leader August Pfluger in his district to talk about the importance of gun rights and criticize Democrats’ attempts at gun control legislation. Lauren recently shared a photo of her kids posing for a Christmas photo with guns and responded to an SNL sketch making fun of her.
It wouldn’t be a week of news without Lauren making the headlines for a controversial statement so here’s the Boebert move du jour – she tweeted that 365,348 children went missing in 2020 and criticized the mainstream media for not covering the statistic. The tweet appears to be reminiscent of a popular QAnon theory that U.S. children are being abducted en masse. Here’s the thing, while that number is technically true, FBI data shows that 95% of those children were runaways reported missing for at least one night, not abductees. Lauren also shared a photo of her kids posing for a Christmas photo with guns and responded to an SNL sketch making fun of her. Big news week…
That’s exactly what we’re going to do here—we’re going to call out her recent conduct as flat out disgraceful. As many probably have seen by now, a video of Lauren went viral in which she made some anti-Muslimism comments directed at fellow under-45er Ilhan Omar. And while apologies could perhaps assuage a one-off, this has emerged as much more of a pattern. Several Republicans, including under-45er Nancy Mace vehemently condemned such rhetoric, thrusting her into her own twitter battle with none other than Marjorie Taylor Green. Under-45er Dan Crenshaw recently made clear in a tweet that there’s “a clear difference between freedom of speech and hate speech.” This isn’t intended to be criticism leveled at any of Lauren’s policies or positions. Simply, her conduct. And we feel it’s rather unbecoming of a Congresswoman many young voters look up to as a role model.
