Pre-Congress?

Maxwell was active in Obama’s 2012 campaign and volunteered with the Newtown Action Alliance, a gun-control organization. He later worked for Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. He was an organizer with the ACLU and survived an incident of gun violence at an event in Orlando in 2016.
